Poetry Out Loud is sponsored by the Washington State Arts Commission, National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation.  Allied Arts and ESD 105 are excited to bring the Poetry Out Loud National Recitation contest to the ESD 105 Region. We are currently seeking high school theatre and English instructors to participate in this event.
Regional Information:
2008-2009 area participants come from eight high schools:  Davis, East Valley, Eisenhower, Naches Valley, Selah, Sunnyside, Wahluke, and West Valley.
Regional competition - Sunday, Feb. 1, from 2-5 p.m. at Allied Arts Center (Yakima).

Students at participationg high schools will compete locally (read About the Program and FAQs). Winners will continue to the regional competition at Allied Arts in Yakima.
Yakima County Regional Finals: Sunday, Feb. 1, at Allied Arts Center (Yakima)
Washington State Finals: Saturday, March 7, 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at University of Puget Sound's Schneebeck Hall (Seattle).

 2007-2008 State Winner from West Valley High School

Congratulations to BreAnna Jones of West Valley High School for winning the third annual Poetry Out Loud state finals and for emerging as one of the finalists at the national competition! BreAnna was among 10 students advancing from regional finals (held in Pierce, Spokane, Thurston, and Yakima counties) who participated in the March 1 state competition at the University of Puget Sound campus.  The national contest was held April 28-29 in Washington, D.C., where BreAnna was named one of the 12 finalists in the 52-student competition.
