YSO Ensembles in the School
| Yakima Symphony Orchestra's Ensembles in the Schools program has served the Yakima and Selah school districts in the past and has, in collaboration with ESD 105's ArtFusion program added Wapato, Toppenish and Grandview, Tieton Intermediate, East Valley Intermediate. The 2008-2009 visits were funded as a result of a Yakima Valley Community Foundation grant recieved by INSPIRE Kids non-profit. The performances include visits to all fourth/fifth grade classrooms of the strings, woodwind and brass ensembles and is culminated by a yearly student concert at the Capitol Theatre in Yakima. The ensemble leaders develop performances that support the state Essential Academic Learning Requirements for music and build on the previous ensemble visits. These visits introduce students to the ensemble instruments in hopes of increasing student participation in band and/or orchestra and support the standards-based instruction provided by music teachers.
